Zombie Diamonds

A few of the diamonds from my Baby Tahoe quilts are looking a little funny.

I believe they look a bit like the face of a zombie!

They made me giggle a little bit.

Farm Girl Vintage - Peas and Carrots Block

It is now the holiday season.  It is between Christmas and New Year's Day.  Around Christmas time, I had gotten a bit busy getting ready for everything and I had to take a short creative break.  Was it a wanted break?  Not really.  I would have loved to neglect my priorities and sew all day, but call me responsible (sarcasm)!  Now, with a few days until 2024, I'll designate some time to sew up a few blocks.

Here is the Peas and Carrots block.

It is made up with flying geese and half square triangles.

Orange for the carrots and green for the peas!

The two blocks I chose to add are the Corn and Tomatoes block and the Chicken Foot block.

This quilt is filling in quickly.

Mistake Made in a Rush - Farm Fresh Flower Block

In my last post, I had presented my Farm Fresh Flower block.  I had pieced that block in a bit of a hurry.  I hadn't really noticed it until I had seen it in the post.  The block just didn't look right.

This is the photo I used in the post.

And this is the Farm Fresh Flower block shown from the book.

Can you find what is different?  Can you see what I forgot to do?

Oops! When I was cutting the pieces of this block, I didn't cut the white triangles that are placed at the end of the green piece.

It looks so much better once it was fixed.

I hope I don't make too many mistakes like this in the future.  Now on to the next block!

Farm Girl Vintage - Grandma's Quilt Block

When I was choosing the fabrics for this block, I didn't care for the colors that were shown inside the book, with the instructions.  I liked the coloration of the block that was used in the quilt that was on the cover of the book.  So, I chose colors that were close to the colors used in that quilt.

This the image used inside the Farm Girl Vintage book.

And this is the image from the cover of the book.  I couldn't get a good photo from the cover.  The colors didn't come very well.  The color of pink triangles, in the outer edge of the block, is so light.  I could barely see that it was there.

The colors I chose weren't exact.  Some of the pieces were slightly different.

Even though I don't care for the pink, I do like how these colors work off each other.  It could be a color scheme used in an actual quilt made by a grandma.

Her quilt may even look like this:

I'm also adding two more blocks, Sunny Sunflower block and Farm fresh Flower block.

With these three blocks added, we almost have half the blocks added to the quilt.

Baby Tahoe Quilt - Diamonds #11 and 12 - Halfway Done!

We're halfway done!  With 24 sets of diamonds to sew together for this Tahoe quilt, we are officially halfway there.  I have completed Diamond #11.

And Diamond #12.

I've laid out the diamonds to see how close it resembles the original Tahoe quilt.

How close do you think it is?

Baby Tahoe Quilt - Diamond #10

I've just completed another set of diamonds.  I have noticed that the last group of 4 diamonds (#'s 5, 6. 7, and 8) are very similar to this group of 4 (#'s 9, 10. 11, and 12).

As soon as I get Diamond #12 sewn together, I'll plan on laying them all out to see how close they resemble the original Tahoe quilt.

Baby Tahoe quilt - Diamond #9

Although this isn't how these diamonds are placed in the quilt, I love how the small blue diamonds make up a circle when it's laid out.

This diamond is almost an exact duplicate to Diamond #5.  The way I had pieced them together, it had made them mirrored opposites.  I'm pretty sure I could have pieced them all the same way.

Farm Girl Vintage - Apron Strings Block

I'm having to return to my Farm Girl Vintage blocks and get some more work and get some more progress with it.  I had decided to work on a fast and easy block and Apron Strings block seemed to meet those requirements.

I had stitched this block with the strips cut on the bias.  Since the bias has a slight stretch, I had to be careful and not pull on those seams.

The hardest part was matching the center seams when each quarter was sewn together.

I'm also adding Sunday Morning block and Canning Season blocks.  The Canning Season block was fun to make.  I tried to select fabrics that had a bold print, as if to show what was in the jar.

With the next three blocks added to the drawing, it's starting to really fill out!

Baby Tahoe - Diamonds #7 and 8

I know that I said that I was going to take a short break from this Baby Tahoe quilt to work more on the Farm Girl Vintage quilt.  I tend to get so fascinated in a new project, that I leave behind a project that I was previously working on.  I don't want to do to this time.

Before I return back to the Farm Vintage quilt, I needed to finish the diamonds that I had already started.

Here is Diamond 7.

And Diamond 8.

When Diamonds 5, 6, 7, and 8 are placed together, it looks like this.
