My Version of a Little Quilt

One year ago, Laundry Basket Quilts launched their Little Quilts Club.  Once you had subscribed to the club, you would receive a fabric kit and pattern for a little quilt.  The first little quilt that was introduced was Little Trip.

Although I'd like to include myself in the Little Quilts Club, I was already subscribed in their Fabric Club. I really didn't want to spend the extra money for another subscription program. The Fabric Club consists of twelve fat quarters from Laundry Basket Quilts, sent to you monthly.  They are usually put together by theme, such as red and green for Christmas.

The Little Trip quilt is based on the Trip Around the World pattern - Trip Around the World pattern.  The quilt measures 54 1/2 inches x 62 1/2 inches.  Little Trip measures approximately 18 1/2 inches x 23 1/2 inches.

  • I'm not positive of the measurements of the Little Trip quilt.  Since I haven't subscribed to the Little Quilts Club, I tried to view the pattern measurements from the YouTube video.  All my measurements, for the Little Trip quilt, may not be accurate.

I wanted to make a miniature quilt version of this quilt and I wanted to use the same fabrics used in the original. I didn't know if would look similar since the squares were going to be about half the size.  I believe the Little Trip quilt was made up with 1-inch squares.  Mine is made with 1/2-inch squares.  With the size reduced, I was worried that they wouldn't have the same visual effect, such as with the large floral prints.

Now that the squares are pieced together, I'm pretty surprised with the outcome.  It looks just like the original.

Based on the measurements, my guess on the size of the original Little Trip quilts was wrong.  I'm anticipating my Miniature Trip quilt will be 17 inches long and the Little Trip quilt is approximately 23 1/2 inches long.  It is about 2/3rds of the size.  I was hoping it would be half.

Next, is to add the border.

Birthday Mystery Quilt - Block 28

With this week's block, I'm doing a happy dance!

Despite the directional fabrics, the squares made this block a no-brainer.  It was very simple in cutting ang piecing.  Once the squares were cut, they could be maneuvered to their correct position.  I didn't have to recut the pieces because I hadn't paid attention to the directional print.  I had to do that with some of the past blocks.

Charm Basket Quilt

I started this quilt last year, when my son was still in high school.  He participated in track and field, and as a parent who has a child in the track team, there is a lot of sitting and waiting for your child's next event.  To quicken the waiting time, I had brought with me, some applique to work on.

I had made an effort to sew the basket pieces at home and applique the handles at the track meets.  That meant 202 hand-appliqued handles!!  Once the upper and lower portions of the basket were finished, then was the simple process of sewing them together.

When all the baskets were sewn together, I had to figure out the color layout.  The pattern was pieced together with a gradient color scheme, using printed fabrics.  I used Laundry Basket Quilt's Linen Texture fabrics, so my gradient coloring was going to a bit different.

Presently, I'm laying out the basket blocks, out on a bed, to see if I can assemble a pleasant color arrangement.

Early Christmas Stockings

It's Christmas in July!!

To me, it's always unusual when Christmas fabrics arrive, to the quilt shops, in the summer.  But it does make sense!  When you are planning on making a Christmas project, like a quilt, it will be wise to start it early, in the summer.  That way you can be sure it will be completed by Christmas morning.

I've made some more store samples.  These Christmas stockings were made from the fabric collection called Tis the Season, from Studio E Fabrics.

Fabric:  Tis The Season

I have made two versions of this stocking - a solid version (for a beginner quilter) and a pieced version (for a more experienced quilter).  I added some straight-line quilting to add a little texture to them.

These stockings were very simple to sew together and didn't take much time at all.  If you wanted to make several to line a fireplace mantel, for example, you could do that in a short period of time.

Birthday Mystery Quilt - Block 27

My block 27

 From Laundry Basket Quilts blog

This block reminds me of "x marks the spot!"

I tried my best in making sure that the rosebuds, in the light blue fabric, were all upright.  Even with the striped fabric, I'd like to see if the block would look different if the pieces used more of the blue band or the lighter band.

Birthday Mystery Quilt - Block 26

We're officially at our halfway point!  We are at week 26 in our 52-week quilt along.

I really like the fabric that was used in the larger, outer triangles.  The print gives a vintage feel, with the gray/beige coloring.  I'm looking forward to making something with this fabric, in the future.

Birthday Mystery Quilt - Block 25

I apologize for the delay of the following birthday blocks.  I had been working on a baby quilt, so I had to pause all my projects.  Now that the quilt was gifted this last weekend, I can catch up with the blocks.

It was simple block to put together, but the cutting was a different story.  With the directional fabric, I had to be careful with how they were cut, so that they all were going in the same vertical direction.  A lot of the time, I'm cutting as usual and not paying attention to the lines.  And most of the time, I have to cut a new piece.

A Quilt for a New Baby

I have been diligently working on a baby quilt.  Now that the quilt had been gifted, I can reveal it.

My sister is expecting a new grandbaby in a couple of months.  I was told that the theme of the baby's room will be Baby Looney Tunes.  Luckily, I found some adorable fabric, Looney Tunes Little Dreamer, from Fabric Utopia.

Fabric for baby quilt:  Looney Tunes Little Dreamer

I picked one of the Looney Tunes Little Dreamer prints, along with two coordinating prints, along with a white background.

I wanted a mixture of prints in this quilt. I wanted to use the Looney Tunes fabric, predominately, along with some other coordinate fabrics.  With the colors used in the Looney Tunes characters, I picked yellow, pink, and black.  Once I placed all the colors together, I found that the pink dominated the quilt.  Even when I used the pink in a small-sized block, it looked a bit feminine, which I didn't want.

Using a graphic editor, I drew up a quilt.

And this is the quilt top.

To finish the quilt, I had to use straight line quilting since I find it difficult to free-motion quilt on my sewing machine.

And she loved it!!
